Meet Shaunte Butler '14, a Harvard graduate with a degree in Neurobiology. Before accepting a full scholarship to Harvard, Shaunte attended Miami Northwestern Senior High School (@mnwbulls55) where she was encouraged by a teacher to apply to Harvard.⠀ ⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ “Not knowing anyone from my high school who had ever attended Harvard, I started to think that it would not be worth it for me to apply. However, after encouragement from a teacher in high school, I included Harvard as one of my schools in the Common Application and was accepted.⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The best moments of my Harvard journey have been the amazing mentors and friends I have made. Being surrounded by a diverse group of individuals with amazing aspirations has also pushed me to become the best version of myself possible by challenging my views and making me realize that I can achieve similar goals. Many professors and TAs have served as amazing mentors by providing advice on adjusting to college, lending an ear when dealing with personal issues, and encouraging me not to be limited by my self-doubt. Through them, I have become a much more confident and well-rounded individual.”⠀ ⠀ Currently, Shaunte is a first-year student on a full scholarship at Yale School of Medicine where she also serves as class president. She hopes to become an academic physician whose research focuses on narrowing the gap in racial and socioeconomic health disparities.⠀ ⠀ Harvard President Drew Faust is excited to see Shaunte and hear from students and teachers during her visit to Miami Northwestern Senior High School later this week! 🤘⠀ ⠀ #HarvardMNW #MyHarvardJourney #MNWHarvard
